In the spotlight and under pressure

Advanced

Following an advanced media course delegates can be expected to:

  • perform well under pressure – i.e. face sustained hostile or aggressive media interviews with confidence, remaining calm, professional and in control;
  • get across complex information in simple terms, explain risk, handle uncertainty and provide reassurance without misleading people
  • recognise and deal with sensitive issues with appropriate empathy;
  • handle criticism, avoid criticising others and effectively manage invitations to apportion blame
  • handle issues of perceived or actual failure;
  • deal effectively with different media demands including documentaries, phone-ins, panel discussions and doorstep interviews;
  • simultaneously handle three-way interviews involving a speaker with opposing views and/or emotive arguments;
  • recognise their own strengths and areas to work on in respect to the full range of media situations.
